Importance of the Salt Creek
Salt is partly responsible for the growth in population in Lincoln.
In 1866, one company alone produced 125,000 lbs. of salt for sale.
The salt industry was so promising that it was a significant factor in the selection for the new territorial capital.
Lancaster was selected as the place for the new territorial capital when it was moved from Omaha.
