Looking from the top of Chalk Hills toward the town. The beautiful North Loup Valley reminded Samuel Scott of his homeland, so gave his post office the poetic name for Scotland, "Scotia." When it became the Greeley County seat in 1874, he also gave the town site to the people of the county.
